Overview of role:

Reporting to the CEO, the Finance Director will be responsible for the smooth running of the whole Finance function as well as playing a key role internally as part of the Leadership Team and externally in communications with our Board and Investors.   

As the Finance leader in the business, you will be managing a team in Lisbon with a remit to build a best-in-class finance function appropriate for the size and scale of our business.  

This role is ideal for someone who wants a highly commercial finance role, requiring an analytical and strategic finance leader to act as a business partner to the CEO and Leadership Team, and who wants to shape strategic decision-making process across all areas of the company and enjoys working within a dynamic fast-paced environment.

With this job, your main responsibilities are:
  • Delivery of regular internal management reporting and analysis, including the provision of financial budgets and forecasts and robust cashflow reporting;

  • Production of the necessary board and investor materials including regular monthly business decks, periodic investor updates;

  • Ensuring a robust financial control environment through the implementation and provision of appropriate governance and authorization processes;

  • Promote the improvement of current financial processes and systems to build a scalable finance infrastructure;

  • Ultimate ownership of the financial business plan including scenario analysis to support a range of outcomes;

  • Advocating a proactive and collaborative approach to business partnering across all areas of the company;

  • Working with stakeholders to help them and their teams understand the impact they have on business performance;

  • Play a critical role in external fundraising efforts, to support the CEO and Board in management presentations, funding structures to maximize value to the company;

  • Delivery of key M&A analysis including assessments of specific target businesses and co-ordination of financial and commercial due diligence with the CEO and Board;

  • Ownership of production of financial statements and smooth running of external audits both in London and Lisbon; 

  • Management of audit and accounting external relationships;

  • Ensure that accounting policies comply with relevant accounting standards and that company policies are followed and that the group is compliant with tax law across the multiple jurisdictions in which it operates;

  • On point internally for legal matters relating to commercial business dealings, company secretarial responsibilities (including regulatory returns); management of legal external relationships;

  • Building, managing, and developing the finance team, which currently consists of 6 amazing folks; 

  • Setting of personal and team objectives and goals that support both business priorities and individual development plans.

Skills & experience:

  • Strong academic track record;

  • A qualified accountant (ACA, CIMA, ACCA or equivalent) with several years post­ qualified experience;

  • An understanding of technology businesses and working within a high transaction­/volume entity;

  • Previous experience working in the UK desirable;

  • Intellectually capable, with an ability to quickly assimilate new data and information into a commercial picture;

  • Hunger and desire to grow with the role and the business focused on realizing ambitious growth aspirations; 

  • Approaches their work in an energetic and resilient manner;

  • Proven track record in management of teams and commitment to the development of employees to foster a financial business partnering collaborative culture;

  • Ability to build strong interpersonal relationships across the business while being able to provide the necessary business challenge in a respectful and productive manner;

  • Appreciation of the importance of a robust financial control environment and governance processes  with an up to date knowledge of key accounting policies relevant to Uniplaces;

  • Exposure to financial management and statutory reporting;

  • Investor relations experience would be advantageous (although not essential) as would participation in M&A or funding exercises;

  • Strong analytical skills with experience within the analysis, forecasting, budgeting, and management reporting;

  • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral), preferably with commercial exposure in previous roles;

  • Strong senior stakeholder management including exposure at Board level; 

  • Positive and proactive, that can do work ethically and with the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively as required;
  • Ability to motivate team, defuse and resolve tensions and prioritize according to business priorities;
  • Ability to flex personal style as appropriate to suit the audience (including all company Q&As, formal Board and Investor meetings, internal Leadership Team meetings, 121s with employees across the business, etc)
  • Unflustered about working in a fast-paced dynamic and ever-changing work environment;
  • Demonstrate a mixture of humility and determination in building relationships across the Leadership Team;
  • Being prepared to act as the Finance leader while also having the ability to recognize and respect conflicting opinions with a commitment to resolving conflict in a productive manner.
