Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced quality engineering team captain who has experience leading teams and is passionate about code quality, user experience, and customer satisfaction. At Olive you will help drive the scalability of the quality team by selecting and implementing tooling, introducing automation frameworks that focus on testing efficiency and reusability and always ensuring we are testing smarter – not harder. This is a hands on role where you will mentor Quality Engineers, review test automation code, ensure production readiness and coach developers on testing best practices. This is a great opportunity for someone who loves to dive into code and troubleshoot errors, but also is driven to mentor and grow the next generation of Quality Engineers.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead, grow, and inspire a distributed team of quality engineers to build our test infrastructure to ensure release quality and production launch readiness
  • Embrace and drive change in all things: in your team and in our processes to adopt a holistic quality strategy that balances speed and quality
  • Document project testing strategies, design test data and and testing tool requirements to ensure project success
  • Own your technical stories and assignments- from writing code, clarifying requirements, meeting project timelines, and increasing overall test coverage
  • Lead technical design and architecture discussions and participate in team code reviews
  • Architect, develop, select and/or implement tools to support an automation first approach to testing
  • Provide leadership and team guidance in agile processes like backlog grooming, card estimating, demos, sprint kick-offs
  • Help maintain and contribute to the collaborative engineering culture, and foster proactive and cooperative relationships within the project team
  • Coach your team by providing technical guidance, continuous feedback loops, holding regular 1:1s, approving time off, etc

Requirements

Qualifications

  • At least with 4+ years in Software Quality Engineering (QA, QE, SDET)
  • 2+ years of experience leading engineering teams
  • Strong understanding of quality theory / best practices and Object Oriented Programming theory / best practices
  • Experience in one or more of the following programming languages: Javascript, TypeScript, Ruby, Python
  • Understanding of web technologies like HTML, CSS, JSON, APIs
  • Experience with Version Control Systems such as Gitlab, CodeCommit or Bitbucket
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Visual Studio Code, JIRA/Confluence
  • Strong ability to debug code, analyzes failures, and trace defects to root causes
  • Self-starter with the ability to prioritize and plan work in a rapidly changing environment
  • A never tiring advocate for software quality and able to partner with stakeholders to drive transformational change
  • Experienced in the development of highly maintainable and reliable code using practices such as unit testing, integration testing, proper code documentation, and appropriate logging
  • Excellent organizational skills, and proven ability to prioritize your work
  • Strong analytical skills and can creatively solve problems in a fast-paced Agile environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex technical issues to internal and external stakeholders
